Faithful readers recall a more glorious age of the Lynch Mob in which the young journalistic phenomenon Walker Morrow was dispensing Lynch Lists from his perch on the highest peak of Vancouver Island. I have the pleasure of informing you that Walker has now found some time to return to the Mob with his unparalleled wit, probing determination, and occasional freedom-of-information bombshells.
It was Walker who launched the FOI request to find the original Lynch List, the holy grail by which this blog is themed. Jennifer Lynch first revealed the existence of the Lynch List last year – a list of “800 or 1200” archived columns, blog posts, and editorials critical of the Commission that CHRC staff were compiling. While the “list” didn’t turn out anything like the ballyhoo that Lynch was communicating, it did make for an interesting glimpse into what the CHRC regarded as “misinformation, gross distortions, and caricatures” and to what lengths they were willing to spend taxpayer dollars in squelching it.
So please join me in welcoming Walker back to the Mob. Let me be the first to say that I’m looking forward to what he will dig up.
